چکیده

In this paper, we investigate the performance of an unmixing system obtained by frequency domain Blind Source Separation (BSS) based on Independent Component Analysis (ICA). Since ICA is based on statistics, i.e., it only attempts to make outputs independent, it is not easy to predict what is going on in a BSS system. We therefore investigate the detailed components in the processed signals of a whole BSS system by measuring four impulse responses of the system. In particular, we focuse on the direct sound and reverberation in the target and jammer signals. As a result, we reveal that the direct sound and reverberation of the jammer can be reduced compared to a null beamformer (NBF), while the reverberation of the target cannot be reduced.

Speech Recognition by Dereverberation Method Based on Multi-channel LMS Algorithm in Noisy Reverberant Environment

1 Introduction In a distant-talking environment, channel distortion drastically degrades speech recognition performance because of mismatches between the training and test environments. The current approaches focusing on robustness issues for automatic speech recognition (ASR) in noisy reverberant environments can be classified as speech enhancement, robust feature extraction, or model adaptati...

Removal of residual crosstalk components in blind source separation using LMS filters

The performance of Blind Source Separation (BSS) using Independent Component Analysis (ICA) declines significantly in a reverberant environment. The degradation is mainly caused by the residual crosstalk components derived from the reverberation of the jammer signal. This paper describes a post-processing method designed to refine output signals obtained by BSS. We propose a new method which us...

A multiresolution approach to blind separation of speech signals in a reverberant environment

The performance of existing blind speech separation methods is limited in a realistic reverberant environment, where a need for long un-mixing filters is imperative. We first show how these methods suffer while trying to balance the competing objectives of frequency-domain permutation alignment and spectral resolution. We then propose a multistage multiresolution algorithm, which aligns the un-...

The fundamental limitation of frequency domain blind source separation for convolutive mixtures of speech

Despite several recent proposals to achieve blind source separation (BSS) for realistic acoustic signals, the separation performance is still not good enough. In particular, when the impulse responses are long, performance is highly limited. In this paper, we consider a two-input, two-output convolutive BSS problem. First, we show that it is not good to be constrained by the condition , where i...

Stereo-input speech recognition using sparseness-based time-frequency masking in a reverberant environment

We present noise robust automatic speech recognition (ASR) using sparseness-based underdetermined blind source separation (BSS) technique. As a representative underdetermined BSS method, we utilized time-frequency masking in this paper. Although time-frequency masking is able to separate target speech from interferences effectively, one should consider two problems. One is that masking does not...
